When you do nothing special, the area left of the switch "⇐ ?" looks like this (note the word "Download").
This is a small applet, which can play the piece for you.
You can even set the speed so that you can tune in (this can be done using the slider in the bottom or by directly entering a speed in the text item.
You can also specify, if you want to hear the chords and/or a metronome. These settings
can be made on this page.
When you click on the "Download" button, a download is started with the settings, that you entered. Most browsers then will start the Windows Media Player and you can hear the piece in it. But if you want to change the tempo, you must stop playing in the Media Player,
repeat the download and restart playing.
Also stopping the playing works only in the Media Player.
When you want to use the playing applet more often, or if you got enough of using the Media Player, you can also do the following: You install a browser plugin named Jazz Plugin.
It exists for Windows, Mac and Linux.
If you have installed it, you can use audition simply and inuitively. You can see it in the fact,
that the text on the button is no longer "Download", but "|>". The first click on the button
starts playing, the second one stops it again.
Unfortunately there are several pitfalls. I can offer a more detailed description, which could perhaps help.
Here you can decide, what you want to have played. You can
- switch on/off the melody, and
- switch on/off the chords (if there are chords with this song), and
- switch on/off a metronome.
But you cannot switch off everything.

Here you can decide, if the playing applet shall additionally transpose the song by some half notes.
This is useful, if you play a saxophone or a clarinet.
When you enter the number 0, there will be no transposition. When you enter e.g. 4, the song will be
played 4 half notes higher, with -4 it will be played 4 half notes lower.
Please click on the "Set" button after changing the number.

It is best, when you open two windows:
- one in which you change the settings, and
- one in which you listen to the song.
In any case you have to stop the playing and restart it to hear your changed settings.
